Michael Taye was a three-time NCAA National Champion and 11-time All-American for the Frostburg State cross country and track & field programs.
Taye is one of Frostburg's most highly decorated student-athletes as he is just one of five All-Americans for the men's cross country program, one of just three indoor National Champions and one of just three athletes to collect 10 or more All-American honors for the men's track & field program.
During his final year in 2000-01, Taye won a National Championship in the 5,000-meter run during the outdoor season. He also collected All-American honors in the 5,000 during both the indoor and outdoor seasons and in the 10,000-meter run at the outdoor championships.
Taye, who collected at least one All-American honor every year while at FSU, earned four All-American honors and two national titles during his junior year in 1998-99. He kicked off the year by earning All-American honors in cross country in the fall.
During the indoor track & field season, he earned his first National Championship and was an All-American in the 5,000-meter run. He capped his stellar year by collecting two more All-American honors in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs during the outdoor season, including his only national title in the 10,000-meter run.
Taye’s individual efforts helped the Bobcat track & field teams to a third place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2001 and a ninth place finish at the outdoor championships that same year. From 1996-98, FSU captured the Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship three times and finished 20th at the national championships in each of those same years.
