Four letters in four years. Starting shortstop for four years. An excellent offensive player in his junior and senior years, Al was one of the top defensive shortstops in the nation all 4 seasons. He had great range and had a major league shortstop’s arm. Easily the best defensive shortstop at F.S.U. during Coach Well’s 30 years. As a freshman in 1972, his play at shortstop was instrumental in the success of the only F.S.U. baseball team to make it to the College World Series.

At the time of his nomination, he held the F.S.U. career record for bases on balls received with 89, ranked 2nd in games played (137), tied for 2nd in runs scored (122), 3rd in at bats (137) and stolen bases (72). His 10 home runs ranked in a tie for 11th, while his 108 hits and 159 total bases ranked 13th. On defense, his 131 games played at shortstop was the F.S.U. record, while his 141 putouts, 341 assists, 534 chances and 49 double plays ranked second.
