Basketball … Three letters in three seasons. The starting center all three years was a prolific scorer who was recognized as one of the very best players in western Maryland.

Despite the fact that, during the 1930’s Frostburg State’s intercollegiate athletic program was rather informal with scant existence of records and news accounts, Alma’s performances are known to have been among the best of the era. During her three years, Frostburg had known a won-lost record of 15-3. The team was 7-0 her senior year and 6-2 her junior year. Records of her freshman year are incomplete.
In the 1932-33 season, as a junior, Alma scored 42 points in the only two games for which statistics exist, getting 17 of Frostburg’s 19 points in the game with local powerhouse YMCA Business Girls. She had 25 of the team’s 43 points in the win over St. John’s Junior College.

As a senior, in 1933-34, she scored 62 points in the four games on statistical record, a 15.5 game average, comparable to 25 points in more modern times. In the two games with Shepherd she had 20 of Frostburg’s 28 points in one and 18 of its 32 in the other.

Alma’s 104 points in six games, a 17.3 game average, was phenomenal for the times. Served as Frostburg State Teachers College’s Athletic Association President.
