Betty Barnes was a four-time All-American sprinter and school record holder for the Frostburg State track & field team.

She had her best year as a junior, earning All-American honors in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. She was also an All-Eastern College Athletic Conference performer and an All-Mason-Dixon Conference selection in the same pair of events. She was a medalist in the 4x400-meter relay at the Penn Relays. She set a school record in both the 55 and 200-meter dashes, was voted as Frostburg State’s Most Valuable Player and was the team’s top point scorer.

During her final season with the Bobcats, she qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 55-meter dash while being named All-Mason-Dixon Conference Champion in the 100-meter dash, 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.

As a sophomore, Barnes was an All-American after taking fifth in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She was an ECAC Champion in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. During the indoor season, she earned All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors and set school records in the 55 and 200-meter dashes.

During her freshman season, she was part of the 4x100-meter relay team that earned All-American and All-ECAC honors. Individually, she captured All-ECAC honors in the 200-meter dash.
