Susan Eisel has been one of the most significant people in the growth and development of Frostburg State University and Bobcat athletics. Her dedication to athletics and the student-athletes themselves has made her an integral part of the university community.
Eisel joined Frostburg State in 1966 and was first assigned to Compton Hall as secretary for the Department of Health and Physical Education/Athletics, Music and Speech & Theater. Working for all three departments, Eisel made travel and meal arrangements for all sports teams, handled insurance and eligibility and also dealt with equipment and recruiting.
Eisel worked with Bobcat athletics until 1979, when she began concentrating all of her efforts into the expanded Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. She continued to show her love and support of FSU sports as a member of the Bobcat Club, serving on the Board of Directors and chairing both the Hall of Fame Selection Committee and the annual Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony from 1984-2000.
Eisel has been very active in a broad range of on-campus activities throughout her tenure. She organized and served as a member of the FSU Staff Senate, assisted in the coordination of the 32nd World Congress of the International Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and was a member of both the FSU Middle States Accreditation Academic Program Working Group and the Faculty/Staff Campaign for the FSU Second Century Campaign.
Eisel has been equally involved in the community as a volunteer for the American Heart Association, assistant with Beall High School fundraising, member of the Frostburg Housing Authority, and long-time treasurer at Welsh Memorial Baptist Church.
Eisel has earned numerous honors and recognition for her service and dedication. She was presented the Jim Anderson Award for contributions to society by the FSU Baseball Alumni, and in October 2002, she received the prestigious University System of Maryland Board of Regents Award for Exceptional Contributions to the University.
Also in 2002, Eisel was presented one of the original Compton Hall bricks in recognition of her being part of the foundation on which the modern FSU athletics program has been built.
