F.S.U.’s first two-sport All-American.
Soccer … Considered to be one of the greatest field players in F.S.U. history. Controlled Frostburg defense from sweeperback position.
All-American, 1981 and 1982, despite being injured most of ’82. All-South Division II & III, 1981 and 1982. All-State 1980 & 1981. In 1980 he led a defense that permitted less than a goal a game. Team won Maryland Small College Championship in ’79, were ECAC Division III champs in ’80 and ’82, and earned first ever NCAA III national bid in ’81. Named team MVP in 1980. Scored 8 goals and had six assists for 14 career points. Four letters.
Track … All-American in the 4x400 meter relay, 1983. Four years as NCAA III Outdoor qualifier in the 800m., 3 times in the 4x400 relay.
Won the Mason-Dixon championships in the outdoor 800 meter in ’82, the outdoor 4x400 relay in ’82, the indoor 880 & mile relay in ’81, and the indoor 800m. and 4x400 relay in ’83. Had 6 second place finishes in the M-D meets: twice in the outdoor 800m., twice in the outdoor 4x400 and once each in the indoor 440 & 800.
At the time of his induction he held the F.S.U. record in 2 events: the outdoor 800m. mark of 1:51.9 set in the Penn State Open (’83) and the indoor 2-mile relay mark of 7:48.42 set in the Delaware Invitational (’81). At one-time he set or reset 8 indoor and 7 outdoor F.S.U. records, ranging from 880-yd. & 800m. to various relays including conventional and medleys. Four letters.
