Cynthia Reese was a four-sport star for the Frostburg field hockey, indoor and outdoor track & field and swimming and diving teams during her athletic career.
Â
Spanning the four sports, Reese earned 14 varsity letters, set FSU records in three different sports in 2003, was named Frostburg’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2002 and was honored with the Female Breakthrough Performance of the Year award in diving in 2001.
Â
As a member of the Bobcat field hockey team, Reese started 72-consecutive games spanning her entire four-year career. She helped the Bobcats to their first two ECAC Tournament appearances in program history during both her sophomore and junior seasons and helped the team to a total of 42 wins.
Â
A two-time NFHCA All-Academic honoree, Reese handed out 30 assists during her playing career and was consistently one of Frostburg’s top scorers. She received the Coaches’ Award in 1999 and was voted team captain as a senior.
Â
Reese is arguably Frostburg’s top pole vaulter for the historic Bobcat track & field program. She set the school record twice during the outdoor season and once during the indoor campaign and twice set the Mason-Dixon Conference Outdoor Championship record.
Â
In her final season in 2003, she set the FSU pole vault record during both the indoor (10ft. 6.25in.) and outdoor seasons (10ft. 6in.).
Â
As a sophomore in 2000, she hit an NCAA Division III provisional mark on two occasions and was an All-Mason-Dixon Conference honoree. In six Mason-Dixon Conference Championships spanning both the indoor and outdoor championships, she captured the league title three times and finished runner-up on three other occasions.
Â
A two-year member of the Bobcat swimming and diving teams, Reese was an NCAA provisional qualifier at one-meter diving and was the swimming and diving team Most Valuable Player as a senior. She also set the FSU record at one-meter diving for six dives (246.75 pts.) and another record in the one-meter diving for 11 dives (444.25 pts.) in 2003.
