Tracey Shelley was a two-time All-American for the Bobcat field hockey team as a center halfback. Shelley was a three-time Maryland State Champion in 1982, 1983 and 1984, and helped FSU to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 1982, 1984, and 1985. Shelley specialized in defensive special teams and penalty stroke special teams and helped lead FSU to a 52-18-3 record during her four-year career.

As a freshman, Shelley was part of the Maryland State Championship team and helped guide the Bobcats to the NCAA Tournament behind two goals and an assist. She was also named the most improved player for her efforts.

The following season, Shelley tallied one goal and four assists and helped the Bobcats to their second-straight Maryland State Championship title.

As a junior, Shelley helped Frostburg to the Maryland State Championship and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Following the season, Shelley was named an All-American, NCAA Regional All-American and was selected for the Outstanding Defense Award. Shelley finished the season with four goals and one assist.

During her senior year, Shelley was a co-captain of the nationally-ranked Bobcats and had the third-most points on the team with six goals and three assists. She earned her second-straight Outstanding Defense Award as FSU made its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in four years. Following the season, Shelley was named an All-American Honorable Mention, as well as an NCAA Regional All-American.
