Dr. Ley has long been recognized in Western Maryland as one of the amateur athlete's most faithful and dedicated friends. His service as team physician to many area high schools and as conductor of pre-season physical examinations for various C.Y.O. and recreation-sponsored youth teams has lasted for decades, even into retirement. No person has ever served athletics with greater energy, enthusiasm or dedication.

Frostburg State University has been one of those institutions benefitting from Dr. Ley's efforts and athletic interests. He was the Bobcats' team physician from 1970 through 1973 and has continued his sports medicine relationship with the University and her athletes until the time of his induction, and, no doubt, beyond. His practice went beyond the mere physical with regard to his impact on Frostburg's athletes. Many Bobcats found a true friend and wise confident in Dr. Ley.

Beyond his medical services to the University, he had been an active member of The Bobcat Club and had been a financial benefactor of Frostburg State's athletic program.
