Baseball … Three letters in three seasons. The starting first baseman all three years, he usually batted in the fourth or fifth spot in the batting order. Although records are incomplete for the era, those available indicate that he hit .563 for five of 1940’s ten games and .454 for three of the four games played in 1942, when W.W.II curtailed college athletic season. In 1941 Frostburg had an 8-4 record and won the Tri-State Baseball Conference Championship.

Soccer … Without any soccer experience he did not play as a freshman, but was Frostburg’s back up goalie the next two years.

Basketball … Three letters in three seasons. A starting guard in his final two seasons, he was the second team center as a freshman, when F.S.T.C. had its best team of the first half of the century. That 1939-40 team finished 17-4, with Jake contributing 50 points. He scored 133 points in 1940-41 and 159 (second on team) in 1941-42.

Service … Jake taught, coached and officiated in Allegany County until his retirement and has served his Alma Mater in many ways, most notable as a long-time member of the Hall of Fame Committee.
