Matt Cline established himself as one of Frostburg State's all-time best middle-distance runners, earning three letters in three seasons of both cross country and track and field from 1974-78.
He set a school record of 3:49.2 in the 1,500-meters in 1978, a mark that stands today. He won numerous NAIA District 18 and Mason-Dixon Conference titles during his career and set district and conference records on several occasions.
Cline was equally impressive on the track, establishing FSU records at 1,000 yards, one mile, two miles and 1,500-meters in both the NAIA and NCAA Division III National Championships.
He also regularly placed in major meets at Pittsburgh, Penn State and West Virginia. He was one of the fiercest competitors to ever represent FSU in cross country and track, and he was a loyal and valuable member of every team on which he competed.
