Track … The NCAA Division III National Champion in two events in 1982: the 400 meter with a time of 56.28, and the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:50.53. A member of the ’82 team that finished second in the national championship meet.

A five-time All-American that same year. In addition to the gold medals in the 400 and 4x400, Melissa earned All-American status with 4th place finishes in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, and a 5th place in the 400 meter relay.

Holder of three F.S.U. indoor records: the 220 (26.8), the 400 (58.6), and the 880 relay (1:47.4). Also holds three F.S.U. outdoors records: the 100 (12.21), the 200 (25.0), and the 400 (55.59). All these records stood at the time of her induction. At one time, Melissa also held F.S.U. records in the 400 meter relay (48.7), the 880 relay (1:44.04), and the 1600 relay (3:50.53).

The Mason-Dixon Conference Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the 4x400 relay and the outdoor champion in the 400, all in 1982. Melissa was the winner of the bronze medal in the 4x400 relay in the ’82 Penn Relays. She was selected by her teammates as the 1982 Outstanding Runner. Two letters in two years.
