Joe Holland is one of the best defensive lineman to play for the Frostburg State football program throughout its 46-year history.
During his four-year career, Holland helped the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and victory in 1993, an ECAC Southeast Championship (’91) and an ECAC Southeast runner-up finish (’94).
As a senior, Holland was named a Coaches’ First Team All-American (formally Kodak All-American) and was a College Football Preview Magazine Pre-Season All-American. He recorded 67 total tackles, four for loss with one pass breakup. The Bobcats posted an 8-2-1 overall record on their way to an ECAC Southwest runner-up finish.
During his junior year, Frostburg State had arguably its best season in school history. The squad finished 10-2 and NCAA Tournament quarterfinalists after defeating Wilkes in the opening round, 26-25. Holland made 72 total tackles and led the team in both sacks (3) and tackles for loss (9).
Over his first two seasons, Holland combined to make 57 total tackles, three sacks, two pass breakups, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. As a freshman, FSU earned its first-ever championship after downing William Patterson, 46-16, in the ECAC Southeast final.
