Sharon Irwin began her 31-year coaching career by being the first coach of the women’s basketball team from 1964-1978 and the women’s lacrosse team beginning in 1966. In basketball, she compiled a 97-113 record. With women’s lacrosse, Sharon coached all but four teams (1978-1981) from 1966-1998. During that time she posted a record of 183 wins, 159 losses and 8 ties.

Her 1973 team won the Maryland Association Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Championship. The 1991 team won the Maryland Coaches Association Championship. Her team made a NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1992, and won ECAC championships in 1991 and 1993.

Sharon also played club lacrosse with the Maryland association in 1964 and 1965. She has also served as chair of the ECAC selection committee for both Regional All-American and All American.
