Track … Four letters in four years. NCAA III National Champion in the Heptathlon in 1982 with an NCAA record of 4676 points. In the heptathlon she finished 1st in the 200 meter dash and long jump, 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and javelin, 5th in the high jump and 800, and 6th in the shot put.
Also, she was a member of the national champion 1600 meter relay team which set an NCAA record of 3:50.53. A 5th place finish in the 400 meter relay gave Gail her 3rd All-American award for 1982, and helped the team to F.S.C.’s highest-ever, 2nd place finish, in the NCAA III Championships.
In 1981, Gail was 3rd in the heptathlon at the AIAW National Championships, earning All-American status. She also won EAIAW Regional Heptathlon that year. She was a Mason-Dixon Conference champion in the 100, 200, 400 and 1600 relay.
She was voted FSC’s Outstanding Track and Field Performer in 1980, 1981 and 1982 and is its overall top point scorer at the time of her induction. Her F.S.C. records to date: 55 meters (7.3), javelin (125’9 ¼”), and the heptathlon (4778 pts.). She also held school records for a time in seven different relays, pentathlon, 50-yard hurdles, 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash and the long jump.
