Football … Big (235 pounds), fast and versatile, Mike excelled at three positions: linebacker (2 years), defensive tackle and fullback (one year each). As a defensive player, he had 31 tackles and 12 assists at middle guard in 1968 and 22 tackles, 14 assists at middle linebacker in 1969. No statistics are available for 1967 season. In 1970,

Mike moved to fullback where his devastating blocking led the team to a 7-1 season. He rushed for 432 yards in 113 carries for a 3.8 yard average. He caught one pass for 46 yards and had one kickoff return of seven yards for a total offense of 485 yards. His five touchdowns led the team. He was voted the Back of the Year in 1970 and received mention on the All-Maryland collegiate team. Lettered all four years.

Following graduation, Mike played for the Norfolk Neptune’s of the Continental Professional Football League and was names the leagues MVP in 1971. Signed by the Baltimore Colts in 1972, but injury led to his release.

At time of his induction into the Hall of Fame, he was ranked the world’s third best Karate Performer.
