Tennis … Although tennis was basically an intramural-type sport during Sara’s student years at Frostburg State Normal, she began he illustrious career in the sport in that program.

Nationally, Sara played in the National Championships at Forest Hill, N.Y. in 1926, ’27 and ’28, in singles competition with the likes of Helen Wills, Molla Bjurstedt Mallory and Mary Sutton Bundy. She paired with Mrs. Bundy in doubles on one occasion. Played in national tourneys at Philadelphia, White Sulfur Springs, W.V., Rye, N.Y. and numerous others.

Invited to play on America’s Sears Cup team (Wimbledon) in 1927, but had to decline. Locally Sara won the Bedford Springs singles championship in 1923, the Allegany County singles in 1924, ’25, and ’26. Teamed with various others to win women’s doubles titles at Mt. Lake in 1925 and ’26, and mixed doubles of Allegany County in 1925 and at Mt. Lake in 1925 and ’26.
