Baseball … Winningest pitcher in FSC history at the time of his induction with a 27-10 record. Other Frostburg career records this left-hander held include most games pitched (53), most games started (34), most innings pitched (244 1/3) and most strikeouts (261).

FSC seasonal records include 19 games pitched, 11 games started, 84 1/3 innings, and 103 strikeouts, all set in 1972, when he went 9-5. In previous years, he was 4-2 and 7-2 in the win-loss columns. In 1970 his ERA was 1.40 which led the team.

He was the team leader in wins three years, in games pitched and started, in complete games and strikeouts in two seasons. Top pitcher on 1972 NAIA Worlds Series team.
Pitched 17 consecutive innings over a three-game span in one day in the 1972 NAIA Area playoffs, winning two of them. After five innings of relief in the first game, John went a complete nine innings in the second and the first three of the championship third game.

Honorable mention All-American in 1970 and 1971. All-District in 1970 and 1971. Team's Most Valuable Pitcher in 1970. Played in District all-star game in 1971 and tri-state all-star game in 1970 and 1971.
