He claimed another All-American nod with a sixth-place effort (1:51.85) in the 800-meter run. His 1:50.50 effort to win the 800 at the 2009 ECAC Championships set both the FSU and ECAC records.

During his senior indoor campaign, Leiter collected All-American laurels in the mile run with a school-record 4:10.08, to place fourth at the NCAA Championships. He collected an ECAC Championship in the 800-meter run (1:53.44) and a Mason-Dixon conference crown in the mile run (5:15.25).

As a junior, Leiter earned his first career All-American award by taking fifth in the 800 (1:52.48) and narrowly missed out on another All-American showing with a ninth-place finish in the 1,500 (3:54.37) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He claimed the ECAC Title in the 800 (1:51.90) and the Mason-Dixon Championship in the 1,500 (3:54.37).

As a sophomore, Leiter earned All-ECAC honors in the 800-meter run in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He competed in the NCAA Championship preliminaries in the 2007 outdoor season, and collected Mason-Dixon titles in the 800 (1:54.32) and 1,500 (3:58.11) the same season.
