LEXINGTON, Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team took fifth overall at the VMI Invitational on Friday, securing one victory and a number of top-10 finishes.
 
Senior Brandon Stein led FSU's best event of the day, winning the 3,000 meters with a personal best time of 19:15.19, while sophomore Ben Saltysiak was just behind with a PR of his own at 9:15.87. Joining them in the event, freshman Angel Ruiz Rivera (9:50.37) and sophomore Ethan McKee (9:52.11) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with the latter also setting a personal record.
 
Continuing in the distance events, junior Jaxon Jones placed fifth in the mile at 4:31.68, followed by Rivera in eighth (4:39.00) and Saltysiak in ninth (4:40.82), setting yet another PR. In the 800m, junior Gage Osborne secured another top-10 finish in seventh at 1:57.22.
 
During the sprints, graduate Marquise Burks qualified for the 60m hurdles finals, where he placed fifth overall in 8.63. Freshman Felix Annan hit a personal best 23.202 in the 200m, while classmate Jason Pantaleon did the same in the 60m at 7.15, while also placing eighth in the long jump at 6.60m. Also in the field events, sophomore Blake Stevens took fifth in the high jump at 1.88m.
 
The Bobcats also impressed in the throws, with two events earning three top-10 finishes apiece. In the weight throw, redshirt junior Ire Maboudou came sixth at 15.29m, followed by classmate Aubrey Russ (14.57m) in eighth and sophomore Willie Washington (13.77m) in tenth. During the shot put, junior Dalton Kasekamp had the top finish in seventh at 13.56m, followed by classmate Tyler McGraw (13.49) placing eighth with a new personal record and sophomore Nick Thomas (13.19m) in ninth.
 
FSU closed out the meet with Annan, junior Jack Hynes, senior Justin Dowell, and sophomore Mason Worley placing fourth in the 400m relay with the team's top time so far this season of 3:26.61.
 
Frostburg will return to action on Friday, January 30, where the team will be split between the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invite and the Penn State National Open. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
