CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Frostburg men's and women's track & field teams capped the second and final day of the 2019 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Outdoor Championships at Cortland on Thursday with two second-place showings.
Senior Robert Romano and junior Michael Belcher highlighted FSU's efforts as Romano took second in the 1,500-meter run in a season-best 3:54.36, while Belcher landed in second with a season-best toss of 47.93 meters (157ft. 3in.) in the discus.
Romano entered the championships ranked eighth in the Mideast region in the 1,500 and Belcher entered the championships in sixth. Belcher's 47.93 keeps him in sixth but moves him to within a meter of fifth.
Romano also helped the 4x800 relay team of juniors Tyriek Charles, Jacob Rickards and Lorenzo Charles to 12
th place with a season-best 8:01.23.
In the throws, junior John Kerns finished in fifth place in the discus at 45.40 meters (148ft. 11in.) and 23
rd in the shot put (12.39 meters/40ft. 7.75in.).
Rounding out the men's performances was sophomore Clayton Washington with 16
th in the 200-meter dash in 22.63.
For the Bobcat women, the team of junior Gabbriell Reason, junior Keileen Estrada, junior Mackenzie Smith and sophomore Maddison Watson captured ninth place in a season-best 49.92.
The Frostburg men finished the championships with 30 points and 14
th place of 41 teams.
