FSU Posts Five Wins At WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Frostburg State men's track & field team opened the 2019-20 indoor season with five wins and nearly 30 top-five finishes at the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia University, Saturday.
 
Senior John Kerns, junior Braxton Clark, along with first-years Daniel Foster and Jaydon Morley all posted wins during opening day.
 
Kerns won both the shot put (15.11 meters) and weight throw (16.78 meters), while setting a personal record in the shot.
 
Clark led the Bobcats to three top-five efforts in the 3,000-meter run when he captured the victory in 9:31.74. He was the only runner to finish in under 10 minutes.

Like Clark, Foster led a trio of top-five finishes in the one-mile run with a win in 4:45.61, while Morley won the 800 in 2:05.32.

Aside from the five wins, Frostburg posted five runner-up finished and five more third-place finishes.

Sophomore Demetrius Sims took second place in the 200-meter dash in 23.48 and senior Kevon Adams was second in the long jump at 6.19 meters.

In the throws, first-year Preston Duffield took home second in the shot put (13.93m), while senior Michael Belcher was second in the weight throw (15.00m).

The 4x400-meter relay squad of junior Clayton Washington, senior Tyriek Charles, Sims and first-year Nicholas Richardson capped the afternoon with second in 3:38.40.

The Bobcats' second 4x400 team finished in third place 3:44.23. The foursome was sophomore Brandon Hill, sophomore Justin Dunklin, first-year Mark Vaughns and Morley.

Senior Jacob Rickards took home third in the one-mile run (4:49.43) and first-year Caleb Banga was third in the 60-meter dash (7.17).

Belcher was third in the shot put at 11.97 meters and Duffield was third in the weight at 11.14 meters. The Bobcats men dominated both the shot put and weight throw events as they captured the top three spots in both.

FSU also finished with three runners in the top five in the 200, mile and 3,000.

Frostburg returns to action next semester when it travels to Susquehanna for the SU Orange & Maroon Classic on Jan. 17 and 18.
