MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Frostburg men kicked off the 2019 portion of their indoor schedule on Friday night with a dominating effort at the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia University.
The Bobcats won four times and captured 11 top-five finishes against primarily NCAA Division I and II schools. In total, Frostburg capped the night with 20 top-10 finishes.
Senior Shamar Nelson won both of the individual events in which he entered taking the victory in the 60-meter dash (7.03), besting 34 competitors. He also won the long jump in 6.44 meters.
In the throws, junior John Kerns took the win in the weight throw in 16.82 meters, just 0.03 meters shy of tying his own school record. He also registered fourth in the shot put in 12.38 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Tyriek Charles, senior Matthew Robinson, junior Kevin McCarthy and sophomore Clayton Washington finished 1
st in 3:38.00.
In the one-mile run, junior Jacob Rickards, sophomore Braxton Clark and senior Marcus Linn finished in third (4:43.99), fourth (4:53.98) and fifth (4:59.95), respectively.
First-years Justin Dunklin and James Spears each finished in the top-five in the high jump as Duncan was second in 1.85 meters and Spears was fifth in 1.80 meters.
In the long jump, first-year Boluwatife Toriola captured third in 6.11 meters, while junior Kevon Adams was fourth in 6.04 meters.
Senior Matthew Robinson was fifth in the 60-meter hurdle finals in 9.33.
FSU returns to the track next Saturday at Susquehanna University for the Orange & Maroon Classic.
