Lowery Captures Two CAC Titles; Frostburg Finishes Sixth

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State hosted the 2016 CAC Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday and came away from the weekend with a hard-fought, sixth-place finish.

The Bobcats totaled 40 points behind 20 top-10 performances.
 
Junior thrower JR Lowery came away with two wins, two First Team All-CAC awards, two more ECAC marks, a school record and a CAC Championship record.
 
Lowery opened the meet on Friday afternoon with a school record, ECAC mark, CAC Championship Meet Record and CAC title after winning the shot put in 17.33 meters (56ft. 10.25in.). The toss was nearly 3.4 meters further than the second-place finisher and improved on his current national ranking. He entered the championships with the nation's second longest throw at 17.19 meters.
 
In the hammer, Lowery captured his second CAC title by winning the event at 53.28 meters (174ft. 10in). It was also good enough for another ECAC qualifying mark.
 
The Bobcats added another two top-five efforts in the field events.
 
Sophomore high jumper Collin Schultz took fourth in the event at 1.87 meters (6ft. 1.5in.), while junior Patrick Broussoul was fourth in the hammer throw with a season-best 43.15 meters (141ft. 7in.).
 
On the track, Frostburg registered two top-five finishes in the relay events.
 
The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Devon Fairhall, sophomore Malik Harris, junior Hossein Hakimi and freshman Teon Archer took third in an ECAC time of 43.15.
 
Meanwhile, the 4x400 squad of Hakimi, freshman Mathew Robinson, freshman Brad Forster and senior David Homce captured fifth place in 3:34.08.
 
Individually, Fairhall hit an ECAC time in the 100-meter dash after finishing in eighth place in a season-best 11.01. Robinson took home sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (59.47) and seventh in the 110 hurdles in a season-best 16.35.
 
Freshman Shamar Nelson registered fifth in long jump (6.38m/20ft. 11.25in.) and eighth in the triple jump (12.45m/40 ft. 10.5in.).
 
Sophomore Michael Harley finished in sixth place in the hammer throw (42.19 meters/138ft. 5in.), sophomore Matthew Deb was seventh in the discus (40.16m/131ft. 9in.), while Archer came in seventh in the 200-meter dash (22.33).
 
Frostburg returns to action next Saturday at Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg.
