Doubles Point Not Enough for Men's Tennis in Loss to WVSU

FROSTBURG, Md.  – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team dropped their home match against West Virginia State by a 6-1 final on Friday.

FSU began the meet well in doubles play, as seniors Cole Alcala and German Diaz took a 6-4 win while juniors Sergi Rodriguez and Gabriel Carrillo won 6-2 at No. 2.

In singles play, WVSU flipped the script, winning all six matches to take the meet victory. Alcala had a tough battle at No. 1 against one of the top players in the region, going for a near-four-hour match at 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. Diaz was also in a marathon, splitting each of the first two sets 5-7, 6-4 but was forced to retire due to injury. Rodriguez also went the full distance in a 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 tiebreak loss.

With the loss, Frostburg drops to 6-9 on the year, while WV State improves to 9-4. FSU will have a quick turnaround as they face West Chester on Saturday, April 18, where it will be senior day. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
