BALTIMORE, Md. – The Frostburg State men's tennis team defeated Goucher on the road Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 7-0.
FSU began the meet by sweeping the doubles matches, as senior Alejandro Flores and junior Mika Sheth got things started in with a 6-0 win at the top spot while juniors Arthur Happel and Luka Uzelac got a 6-3 victory at No. 3. In the closest-contested match, sophomores Gabriel Carrillo and Sergi Rieria Rodriguez came out 7-6 winners after a tiebreaker for the sweep.
Frostburg looked strong in singles play as well, winning all six bouts without dropping a set. Uzelac comfortably won 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot, while Carrillo also cruised 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Flores (6-4, 6-0) and Sheth (6-3, 6-1) each dropped just four games apiece, while Rodriguez (6-2, 6-1) and Happel (6-3, 7-5) closed out the meet with wins.
With the result, FSU improves to 1-1 in the Fall season while Goucher drops to 0-1. The Bobcats are back on the court Saturday, October 3 at home for a 2 PM match against Salem (WV). For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
