FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team defeated California (Pa.) 6-1 at home on Friday afternoon.

FSU had little trouble in sweeping the doubles point, as all three matches ended in 6-1 scores. Senior Vitoria Maximiliano joined freshman Debra Gil at the top spot, with seniors Patricia Castejon and Ximena Ku at No. 2 and senior Ella Troxell partnering with sophomore Angie Almeyda in the third spot.

Almeyda didn't lose a set in securing a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5 singles, while Gil (6-0, 6-1) and Troxell (6-1, 6-0) weren't far behind in dropping just one game apiece. Castejon (6-1, 6-1) and Ku (6-3, 6-3) each also enjoyed straight-set wins at Nos. 3 and 2, respectively. CalU was able to salvage a point from the match, with Maximiliano coming up just short in a 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 tiebreak loss at No. 1.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 3-0 in the Fall season, while the Vulcans drop to 1-2. FSU will next take a split trip on Saturday, October 10, with half of the team traveling to Goucher and the rest going to West Virginia Wesleyan for a pair of invitationals.
