Women's Tennis Eases Past Shippensburg in Road Victory

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team defeated Shippensburg 6-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.

FSU was able to sweep the doubles matches, all by scores of 6-3. Senior Ximena Ku joined junior Atlee Hilliard at the top spot, followed by senior Ella Troxell and sophomore Angie Almeyda at No. 2 and freshmen Debra Gil and Jasleen Paquer at the final pair.

Almeyda and Troxell had impressive showings in singles play, not allowing their opponents to take a single game in their 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. Ku (6-2, 7-5) and Gil (6-4, 6-3) also cruised to straight-set victories at the top two spots, while Hilliard had a battle at No. 5 with a 7-5, 1-6, 10-6 win. The Raiders were able to avoid a complete meet sweep, as Paquer fell just shy at No. 6 with a tightly-contested 7-6, 5-7, 10-6 loss.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 2-0 on the fall season, while Shippensburg drops to 0-3. FSU's next match against Cal (Pa.) set for Sunday, September 20 has been postponed, with a make-up date yet to be announced. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
