YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team saw a new program record set as well as several top-10 finishes at the Youngstown College Invitational on Friday.

Sophomore Sydney Johnson enjoyed a career day, blowing past her previous high mark in the weight throw at 15.88m, winning the event and breaking the previous school record that had stood since 2020. She added another top-10 finish in the shot put, placing ninth at 11.17m, while sophomore Kennedy Simmons set a new PR at 8.58m.

In the sprints, senior Valerie Boards turned in second place during the 200m at 25.33 as the top Division II performer in the event. Junior Bella Mastria had a number of solid performances, as she qualified for the 60m hurdle finals and finished seventh overall, while her qualifying time of 9.11 put her fourth in program history. She also placed ninth in the long jump at 5.32m, while in the triple jump, freshman Shekinah Johnson placed sixth with a PR of 11.00m that puts her seventh in school history.

Junior Hannah Schauman had the top finish for the distance events, earning fifth in the 5K at 19:51.23, while sophomore Keira Taylor impressed with a pair of personal bests in both the 800m (2:30.46) and the mile (5:36.17).

Frostburg will next travel to Lexington, Va. for the VMI Invitational to be held from Friday, January 23 through Saturday, January 24. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
