HAMPTON, Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team took part in the Virginia Duals across Friday and Saturday, securing fourth place by defeating Washington & Jefferson and East Stroudsburg and losses to Glenville State and Newberry.  Â

In their first matchup against W&J, the Bobcats got out to an early lead as sophomore Nate Wilhelm took a pin at 125 and freshman Tanner Halling secured a 25-5 tech fall at 133. The Presidents got themselves going with a pair of major decisions at 141 and 149, bringing the match score to 11-8. Redshirt senior Nico D'Amico and junior Mason Buckler swung momentum back to FSU, with the former taking an 11-4 decision at 157 and the latter pinning his opponent at 165. Washington & Jefferson kept themselves afloat with a pair of decisions at 174 and 184, though Frostburg still held a 20-14 advantage. Swiftly shutting the door on any possibility of a comeback, both sophomores Alex Hoy and Cole Yonkin won by falls at 197 and 285, respectively, closing out the 32-14 victory.

 Moving into the quarterfinal bout, ESU took an early lead with a narrow 6-5 decision at 125, however Halling, sophomore Chase Bell, and junior Gage Heilbrun went on a run of three consecutive pins at 133, 141, and 149 to take a commanding 18-3 lead. The Warriors landed another decision at 157, but Buckler responded with a low-scoring 2-0 victory while junior Duncan Kammar picked up a convincing 18-1 tech fall to lead 26-6. East Stroudsburg found much more success at the higher weights, taking major decisions and 184 and 197 while earning a pin at 285, but it wouldn't be enough to get back into the overall meet score, which FSU won 26-20.

Coming off two wins in the first day of the Bobcats faced off against a familiar opponent in MEC foe Glenville State. FSU took part in the Glenville Invite earlier in the year and will see the Pioneers again at the MEC Championships at the end of January. Ranked 10
th in the nation by NWCA, Glenville started things off taking the 125 match with a major decision. Halling responded with a win at 133 by earning a sudden victory for a 14-11 decision. The Pioneers would run the table in the next seven matches, taking every one outside of the heavyweight match that was a forfeit giving the Bobcats six addition team points for a final score of 34-9.

Seeking redemption in the third-place match against Newberry, Frostburg fell behind early as the Wolves took tech falls at 125 and 133. Responding swiftly, sophomore Stephen Stottlemyer took a pin at 141 while Heilbrun dominated in a 20-2 tech fall at 149 to put FSU ahead 11-10. NC looked to pull away by winning three of the next four bouts, two by major decision as well as a narrow 12-11 win at 184, however Kammar picked up a massive pin at 174 to keep the Bobcats close at 21-17. Newberry would put things away late, taking a pin at 197 and an overtime decision at 285 for the 30-17 victory.
