Busy Week Sees Women's Track & Field Take Part in Pair of Competitions

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team took part in a pair of meets during the week, with a few athletes heading south to the Raleigh Relays and the rest of the team taking part in the Tim Weaver Invite.
 
In Raleigh, junior Valerie Boards enjoyed a pair of season-best times in the 100m (12.49) and the 200m (24.64), breaking a tie with former standout Kayla Truesdel to stand alone with the program record in the latter event. Additionally, sophomore Bella Mastria also set an SB in the long jump (5.41m).
 
While at WLU, several Bobcats set personal-best marks, with freshman Keira Taylor setting a pair in the distance events during the 800m (2:32.42) and the 1,500m (5:10.23). Impressing for the distance runners was sophomore Hannah Schauman, who secured FSU's top overall finish of the day by coming fourth in the 5k at 20:02.76.
 
Freshman Gwen Bates and junior Claire Breighner both set PR's in the 200m and 400m, the former going at 30.85 and 1:09.25 and the latter at 32.13 and 1:11.77, respectively. Also setting a pair of personal records during the meet was freshman Reghan Sivic, who did so in the 200m (31.18) and the high jump (1.37m). In the throws, freshman Sarah Heasley set a new PR in the discus at 26.74m, while freshman Eden Smallwood enjoyed a season-best mark of 21.48m in the event.
 
Frostburg next will travel to Grantham, Pa. to take part in the Messiah Multis and Invite from Thursday, April 10 until Saturday, April 12. Information and updates will be posted to frostbugsports.com.
