NORFOLK, Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team opened their Spring Break trip with a pair of losses to Norfolk State (6-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (4-3) on Wednesday.
 
Against the Division I Spartans, juniors Cole Alcala and German Diaz picked up an impressive 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while FSU also received a forfeit at the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles point.
 
NSU hit right back in singles play, winning each of the six matches, all but one of them in straight-set sweeps. Sophomore Viktor Boban came closest to earning a Bobcat victory at No. 3, coming up just shy in a 4-6, 6-1, 10-2 battle. Alcala also had a pair of long sets, falling 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot.
 
In the second matchup against the Division III Marlins, Alcala and Diaz once again took their doubles spot 6-3, while senior Matt Bolen joined Boban for a 6-4 win at No. 2 to earn the meet point.
 
Alcala (6-1, 7-5) and Diaz (6-3, 6-2) each enjoyed comfortable wins at the top two singles spots but VWU responded with sweeps at Nos. 4-6 to tie the meet. The deciding point would come down to the three position, where Boban again fought hard but dropped the three-set marathon 7-5, 3-6, 10-2 to give the hosts the 4-3 meet win.  
 
With the losses, Frostburg drops to 1-5 on the year and will next wrap up their road trip to Virginia State on Thursday, March 20 at 11 a.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
