SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team opened up their 2024-25 match play season with a 6-1 road win over Shepherd on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Rams earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, but senior Sydney Goering and sophomore Ella Troxell responded with a 6-0 rout in the second pair. An SU forfeit at the final pairing gave FSU the point for the match.
Â
Once more, Shepherd was tops in No. 1 singles, but that would be their only other victory of the entire match. Troxell and sophomores Lauren Ceballos and Patricia Castejon all earned clean 6-0, 6-0 decisions in securing a Bobcat match win, while Goering won 6-2, 6-0 to close out the individual scores. Junior Alyssa Kush battled close 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 as the top-seeded loss.
Â
With the win, Frostburg starts the year 1-0, while Shepherd falls to 0-2. The Bobcats return to the court on Wednesday, October 2 to face UDC on the road at 1 p.m. in a match rescheduled from earlier in the season. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
