FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team fell just shy in their first match of conference play, dropping their home contest against West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday afternoon with a 4-3 final.
Sophomore Alyssa Kush and freshman Lauren Ceballos won the lone doubles match for Frostburg, defeating their opponents 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, as WVWC took both the second and third pairings to earn the opening match point.
Ceballos took her singles match, competing at No. 2, winning by a 6-3, 6-4 score. Junior Lorena Pintar and freshman Patricia Castejon won No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, taking their matches by finals of 7-5, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-2. Kush put up a fight in her contest at No. 1 singles, taking her match to three sets, but falling just short in a 6-7, 6-2, 3-6 score that proved to be the winning point for Wesleyan.
With the loss, FSU drops to 7-8 on the season, while WVWC moves to 10-4. The Bobcats will next go on the road to face Salem (WV) at 3 PM on Friday, April 12. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
