FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team was forced to settle for a tie with Salem (WV) in their final home match of the year, with weather ending the contest in a 4-4 score.
Freshmen Cole Alcala and German Diaz took their No. 1 doubles match with ease at 6-2, while freshman Jason Haley and junior Nate Burkhardt also earned a win 6-4. Sophomore Matt Bolen and freshman Noah Fisher narrowly missed out on making it a clean sweep, falling 7-6 as the No. 2 pairing.
Alcala (6-1, 6-3) and Fisher (7-5, 4-6, 6-2) both won their singles matches to put FSU on the brink of taking the meet, but the Tigers took three singles points of their own in attempt to make a comeback. At No. 6 singles, Haley had a one set lead at 7-6 before the match had to be called due to weather in the area, causing the meet to result in a tie.
With the result, Frostburg stands at 4-13-1, while Salem ends their season at 11-10-1. The Bobcats play their final match on the road against Millersville Wednesday, April 19 at 3 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
