Men's Swimming Continues Strong Performance in Day Two of Championships

CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team continued their good showing at the GMAC/MEC Championships, ending day two in third place overall and the top Mountain East Conference team.
 
The top finish on the day came from sophomore Nate Canapp placing fourth overall in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:08.29, which was the second-fastest in the MEC. With that time Canapp, moved atop the FSU record board, his second individual record set at the championships.
 
Also moving into the top 10 in the event, sophomore Luka Smith posted a 4:22.00, which is good enough for fourth all-time at FSU, while junior Matthew Rotman set a personal record of 4:29.52 to improve his 10th-place standing.
 
Junior Noah Loper took sixth overall in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:42.41 and breaking the FSU record by a full second. Sophomore Jaden Tipton set a personal best time of 1:46.44 during the preliminary rounds to put him at seventh all-time, while freshman Alex Whitton swam a 1:47.65 as the eighth-fastest.
 
During the preliminaries of the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Julian Najarro Sedar set a program record in 49.86, breaking junior teammate Andy Creelman's previous mark, as the pair finished eighth and ninth, respectively, overall.
 
Freshman Andrew Wetherhold surged into the top-10 in school history for the event, as his 52.05 is the third-fastest all-time. Additionally in the event, Tipton put the fifth all-time mark with a 52.81, while senior Quincy Page finished eighth all-time at 53.11.
 
The Bobcats also showed well in the 400-yard medley relay, as the team of juniors Jackson Miller and PJ Emrich, Najarro Sedar and Tipton finished in fifth overall at 3:30.42, setting yet another school record in the process.

After the second day of events, the men maintained their third-place standing overall, 25.5 points behind second-placed Ashland and 85.5 ahead of Notre Dame College as the next-closest MEC team. The Championships resume day three with final events scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
