CHARLESTON, W. VA. - The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team competed in the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday, placing sixth overall at the meet.
The highlight of the day for the Bobcats came from freshman Tom McCoy's win and new school record in the pole vault. McCoy cleared the 4.72-meter mark, breaking the previous record of 4.60 meters set by C.A. Webb in 1985, to earn 10 points for wining the event, the lone FSU first place on the day. The mark also is currently the highest in the MEC and tops the Atlantic region as well.

In the distance events, sophomore Justus LePrevost, freshman Caden Jones and sophomore Kole Morgan all hit PR times in the 5000-meters at 15:27, 16:25 and 16:34, respectively. Graduate Jonah Smith set a personal record with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meters with a time of 33:24.82, finishing just two seconds off of first place.
Junior Mark Vaughns had a solid day in the sprints for Frostburg, as in the 100-meters he had a PR of 10.92 seconds, while also hitting a personal mark in the 200-meters at 22.26, which was good enough for sixth-place finish. Fellow sophomore Nathaniel Mesy also hit a PR in the event with a 22.49. Vaughns' best individual performance on the day came in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing third with a time of 15.11. Another third-place finish came as a part of the 4x100 team, along with Mesy and freshmen Paul James and Dvonte Clark, putting together a solid time of 3:29.04. Clark would earn a top-five finish in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 58.73.Â

In the throwing events, senior Jared Johnson had a fifth-place finish at a personal best distance of 42.38. Johnson also had a PR in the discus at 39.1 meters, along with freshmen Marquise Burks at 37.6 and Brandon Hass with a throw of 36 meters even.
