Outdoor MEC Track and Field Championships: Day Two

GLENVILLE, W. Va.- Day two of the outdoor MEC track and field championships wrapped up Monday evening, with the Frostburg men finishing the day in third place overall and the women in fifth.
 
Frostburg picked up their second victory of the meet, as senior Michael Belcher earned top marks in discus with a throw of 45.97 meters. Fellow senior John Kerns would finish fourth in the event with a 43 meter throw. Belcher (13.71 meters) and Kerns (13.38 meters) would also finish sixth and eighth, respectively, in shot put.
 
The women's heptathlon and men's decathlon both came to a close, with the Bobcats getting a couple of good results. First-year Morgan Mathews finished in fourth place in the heptathlon with her highest score of the season, earning a 3,284. Sophomore Justin Dunklin also earned a season-best score in the decathlon, finishing fourth with a 4,918.
 
In women's triple jump, first-year Alyssa Mullery picked up a second-place finish with a jump of 11.09 meters, while fellow first-year Omokemi Balogun finished fourth with a 10.7 meter jump. Mullery would also get fifth in high jump with a 1.5 meter leap, she will compete in the 100 meter hurdle finals on Tuesday.
 
For men's triple jump, first-year Jonathan Jenkins had the best Bobcat leap of the day, earning fourth place with a 12.99 meter jump, his longest jump of the year.
 
Rounding out Frostburg's impressive day, first-year Hannah Muir earned sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a 12:54.
