Bobcats Collect Two Wins at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.VA. – The men's tennis team picked up two victories this past weekend at the UC Invite hosted by the University of Charleston.

The Bobcats lone singles victory came courtesy of sophomore Ryan Tomasic, defeating Austin Gessel of West Virginia State 6-4, 7-5.

Junior Geoffery Goldring fell in his Singles A match to Nadal Ferrer of West Virginia Wesleyan College, 6-1, 6-0. First-year Mason Hordubay dropped his matchup with Artjoms Spakovs in Singles C action, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Toheeb Aroworowon lost to Charleston's Sam Bowman in Singles E, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Tim Goldring was defeated in Singles F action by West Virginia Welseyan's Daniel Moreira, 6-0, 6-3.

First-year Ben Williams dropped both of his Singles G matches, first to Gessel, 6-0, 6-2, and then to West Virginia State's Nick Fraley, 6-1, 6-1. Tomasic suffered a loss in Singles G action to Fraley, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, Frostburg State grabbed one win with graduate senior Christian Deynes and Aroworowon defeating a duo from MEC foe West Virginia State.

The doubles started with Geoffrey Goldring and Hordubay falling to a pair of Charleston players, 6-1. The Bobcats top duo also fell to the group from Bluefield College by the same score.

Deynes and Aroworowon later played the McIntosh and Papworth duo from West Virginia Wesleyan College, falling 6-1. Later they took on Malouf and Martinez from Charleston and fell 6-2.

Tomasic and Tim Goldring took on Batoon and Phillips from Charleston, narrowly falling 6-4 to the host school. That same Bobcat pairing battled fellow Bobcats from WVWC where they lost 6-0. That was the same result for the matchup against Tye and Harms from Charleston.

Tomasic and Williams lost a close match with West Virginia State, 6-4. Williams was later joined by Hordubay, losing in straight sets to both Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan.
