FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Anthony Giuseppetti broke a quartet of school records in Frostburg's defeat to the Falcons of Notre Dame College. The women were defeated 132-102 while the men fell 141-115.
The women were victorious in four events while the men claimed victory in seven events, including four of the final five races.
Sophomore Haley Benedictis won a pair of events to lead the women. Benedictis won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:24.39) and 100-meter IM (1:15.94).
Senior Megan Culbertson, who was one of four recognized on senior day, was victorious in the the 200-meter breaststroke (3:06.18), and first-year Rayna Cicen won the 100-meter backstroke (1:15.43).
Second place finishes included the quartet of Cicen, Benedictis, sophomore Aubree Morris and Culbertson in the 100-meter medley relay (1:05.14), Maria Russo in the 600-meter freestyle (8:51.06), Culbertson in the 50-meter freestyle (30.33), first-year Maya Wilson in the 200-meter backstroke (2:48.57), and Benedictis in the 200-meter breaststroke (50.15).
The men got a standout performance from Giuseppetti. The Frederick, Md. native took first in four events, including two relays and two individual races.
Giuseppetti's first school record-performance came in the 100-meter backstroke (1:00.22), where he toppled a near 20-year record held by Kelly Ryan. Giuseppetti also broke Ryan's opening lap record with a mark of 28.52.
Giuseppetti also won the 300-meter freestyle (3:11.29) and was a part of the team's first victory in the 100-meter medley relay (53.77) alongside first-year James Harmon, first-year Quincy Page, and sophomore Luke Russell.
The second record-breaking showcase came in the event's final day. Giuseppetti, alongside junior Sawyer Conklin, junior Brady Peterson, and Russell, teamed to win the 800-meter freestyle relay (8:33.94). Giuseppetti and Conklin were both on the original record-holding time set two years ago.
In addition, Giuseppetti's 200-meters of the 800-meter freestyle relay broke another record (1:57.77) set two years ago.
Russell was also victorious in the 50-meter freestyle (25.29) while Peterson took first in an exciting 100-meter butterfly race (1:01.41). Sophomore Jacob Tantalla also won the 200-meter breaststroke (2:53.24)
Junior Connor Gioffreda also broke the American S6 Paralympic world record in the 100-meter IM (1:30.52).
Second place finishes included Peterson in the 600-meter freestyle (7:28.51), Harmon in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.59) and 200-meter breaststroke (2:53.83), Russell in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.66), and Page in the 100-meter IM (1:06.11)
The Bobcats have a one-week hiatus before taking part in their first GMAC/MEC Championship in Canton, Ohio beginning on Wednesday, February 12.
