NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg men's track & field team opened the first night of the 2019 CAC Outdoor Championships with impressive results at CNU, Friday night.
 
Four Bobcats captured All-CAC honors and FSU as a team sits in second place with 41 points, eight behind leader Mary Washington (49 pts.).
 
All four of Frostburg's all-conference honors came in the field events and were led by junior John Kerns. After taking third in the hammer a year ago at the CACs, Kerns elevated to the league's gold medal as he finished first and earned All-CAC First Team honors. He landed his second-to-last throw at 52.57 meters (172ft. 6in.).
 
Kerns also earned a Second Team All-CAC medal after finishing runner-up in the shot put at 14.06 meters. The two All-CAC awards are the first of his career during the outdoor season.
 
Junior Michael Belcher also grabbed Second Team All-CAC honors after he took second place in the hammer throw at 51.24 meters (168ft. 1in.).
 
First-year Ratez McLaurin finished runner-up in the triple jump at 14.08 meters (46ft. 2.5in.), earning him Second Team All-CAC honors in the process.
 
Senior Christian Healey rounded out the top-five efforts in the field events as he finished in fifth place in the triple jump in 13.28 meters (43ft. 7in.).
 
First-year Jared Johnson added ninth place in the shot put in 12.47 meters (40 ft. 11 in.), while junior James Naill was 12^th in the hammer (34.84 meters/114ft. 4in.).
 
Frostburg landed three sprinters in the finals of tomorrow's 100-meter dash. Sophomore Dajon Wiseman took third in the prelims in 10.91, senior Shamar Nelson was fourth in 11.05, while sophomore Clayton Washington was eighth in 11.21.
 
In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Matthew Robinson qualified for the finals after placing sixth in 16.37 in the prelims.
 
First-year Justin Dunklin (16.58) and senior Bradley Forster (16.74) each missed the 100 hurdle finals after finishing in ninth and 10^th respectively in the preliminaries.
 
Junior Braxton Clark closed the night for Frostburg with three points after taking sixth in the 10,000-meter run in 34:10.44.
 
The second and final day of the 2019 Championships gets under way tomorrow at 10:00 am.
