Romano Wins Again, Sets School Record At Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State men's track & field team competed in its final regular season meet on Saturday. The Bobcats travelled to the Paul Kaiser Classic, hosted by Division II Shippensburg.
 
Frostburg took on some of the top Division II and Division III competition in the region. The Bobcats broke one school record, took home one individual title and posted eight top-10 finishes.
 
Senior Robert Romano broke Frostburg State's program record in the 3,000-meter run, with a first-place effort of 8:39.28. Its breaks the previous mark of 8:48.20, set by Bob Rimkis in 1982. It marks the sixth-consecutive meet with an individual win for Romano during the outdoor season. During the outdoor season, Romano has individual victories in the 800, 1500, 3000 and 5000.
 
The Bobcats placed a pair of athletes inside the top 10 in the triple jump with first-year Ratez McLaurin taking fourth at 13.37 meters (45 feet, 0.5 inches) and senior Christian Healey finishing sixth at 13.31 meters (43 feet, 8 inches).
 
In the long jump, senior Shamar Nelson's leap of 6.80 meters (22 feet, 3.75 inches) earned him fifth-place. Junior Kevon Adams placed 19th at 6.27 meters (20 feet, 7 inches).
 
Junior John Kerns paced the Bobcats in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.03 meters (167 feet, 5 inches), good four sixth-place. Junior Michael Belcher placed 14th at 43.10 meters (141 feet, 5 inches). Kerns took ninth in the shot put at 14.46 meters (47 feet, 5.25 inches).
 
In the javelin, junior James Naill was sixth with an effort of 51.52 meters (169 feet, 0 inches). Bradley Forster was 18th at 43.98 meters (144 feet, 3 inches).
 
In the 800-meter run, junior Jacob Rickards finished 11th in 1:58.95.
 
Sophomore Clayton Washington took 11th in the 200-meter dash (22.72) and 17th in the 100-meter dash (11.18).
 
First-year Justin Dunklin was tied for 14th in the high jump (1.82 meters; 5 feet, 11.5 inches) and 25th in the 110-meter hurdles (17.21). 
 
Junior Timmy Wolodkin ran 18:12.61 in the 5,000-meter run, good for 19th. Junior Tyriek Charles took 21st in the 400-meter dash (53.76).
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore James Schwab took 23rd at 1:04.01 and first-year Brandon Hill finished behind him at 24th (1:04.23).
 
Frostburg's 4x400 relay team of Hill, sophomore Devin Horseman-Guy, junior Tristan Barnett and senior Matthew Robinson ran to a ninth-place finish at 3:48.76.
 
The Bobcats will travel to the 2019 CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships next weekend, hosted by Christopher Newport. A full preview will be made available during the week.
