ST.MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Frostburg State women's tennis collected their first conference win on Saturday afternoon against St. Mary's College of Maryland with a 6-3 win. This victory marks the first win for the program against St. Mary's since joining the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) in 2010-11.
The Bobcats are now 5-2 overall, and 1-1 in conference play. The Seahawks fall to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in CAC action.
Senior Jenna Lipinski and junior Kate Paylor kicked off the doubles wins with a 9-8 win over St. Mary's Claire Bodine and Alden Grosh. The Bobcats collected three doubles wins over the Seahawks with the second win coming from first-year Shea Przywieczerski and junior Sammi Turner taking an 8-2 win. The third doubles win came from first-year Cherise Jenkins and sophomore Sophia Staggers dominating over Sophie Nuwar and Baudratte Djiogo with an 8-0 win.
The Bobcats split with the Seahawks in singles competition with each team taking three wins. First-year Erika Femne took a win over Sophie Nuwar with scores of 7-5 and 6-0. Staggers collected a 6-2 and 6-1 win over Jackie Agyemany and Przywieczerski dominated with a 6-0 win. Lipinski, Turner, and Jenkins fell to St. Mary's in their singles matches.
Frostburg is back in action tomorrow against CAC opponent, University of Mary Washington with a start time of 10:00 a.m.
