LANCASTER, Pa. – Day two of the Franklin and Marshall Invitational proved nothing but successful for the Frostburg State men's and women's swim teams, as the Bobcats broke two school records and one meet record.
Sophomore Christian March not only broke Frostburg State's school record in the 200 breaststroke, but also the meet record for the F&M Invite as he led the Bobcat men in the second day of competition. His winning time of 2:03.91 broke the previous school record of 2:07.23, set by March last February.
March's time of 2:03.91 currently stands as the fastest in Division III this season and is also an NCAA "B" cut and an ECAC "A" cut.
Prelims Results-WomenPrelims Results-MenFinals Results-WomenFinals Results-MenFreshman Maddie Weinberger swam a record-breaking performance in the 200-yard breaststroke touching in at 2:28.41, crushing the previous school record of 2:31.36 set in 1994. Weinberger finished eighth overall in the event. Her time also is an ECAC "A" cut.
The Frostburg men finished the day with 260 points in eighth place, while the women sit in 10
th with 147 points.
Sophomore Macey Nitchie also had a standout day for the Bobcats, as she made finals in both the 50 and 200-yard freestyle. Nitchie placed 10
th in the 50-yard free in 24.83, just slightly off her school record of 24.79. She also placed 10
th for the Bobcats in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.20). Her times also qualify her for the ECAC Championships.
The 200-medley relay of freshman Emily Turner, Weinberger, senior Chrissy Alessandrini and Nitchie placed 15
th overall in 1:55.46.
March and freshman Sidney Horton both placed in the finals for the Bobcats. March swam in the B final finishing 10
th overall in a season-best time of 21.94, also an ECAC "A" cut. Horton swam in the C final placing 19
th in his career-best time of 22.48.
Three Bobcat men competed in the C final of the 200-yard breaststroke, placing 20
th, 21
st and 22
nd. Senior John Singleton touched in at 2:42.89; following right behind him was sophomore Taylor Wade (2:45.58) and freshman Gregory Thomas (2:46.15).
A pair of Bobcats also swam in the C final of the 100-yard backstroke tonight, sophomore James Williams took 19
th overall in his career-best time of 57.81, while classmate Deionn Yarberough finished right behind him in 57.86.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Yarberough, March, Horton and Williams placed 10
th overall in 1:41.29.
The final day of competition will begin tomorrow with prelims set to start at 9:00 am and finals at 5:00 pm.
