ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's (Md.) earned a 4-1 victory over Frostburg State in the Capital Athletic Conference field hockey opener for both teams, Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (7-3, 1-0 CAC) scored three goals in the opening half of play and scored the first goal of the second to jump out to a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Junior Jackie Best scored of an assist from classmate Alexandra Darrow in the 56
th minute to narrow the final deficit to 4-1.
Best led Frostburg (5-6, 0-1 CAC) with five shots, including three on goal, but St. Mary's narrowly outshot FSU 13-10. The Seahawks scored three first-half goals on six shots and were led in scoring by Brady Wolf, who scored the first goal of the second half and added two first-half assists.
Junior Jacqueline Gover and freshman Nicole Leighty each finished with two saves.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Shenandoah at 4:00 pm.
