Women's Soccer Settles for a Draw Against Stevenson

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's soccer team took Stevenson to two overtimes with neither team able to break the 1-1 deadlock, Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.

Sophomore Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) provided the only offensive output for Frostburg State (3-1-1) as she netted the only Bobcat goal just under three minutes into the game.

Despite the early momentum and taking twice as many shots (20-10) as the Mustangs (4-1-1) the Russell goal would be the only points for FSU. Stevenson would come out of the break running and keep the Bobcat defense on its heels. Samantha Novy knotted the game when she headed home a rebound (77:10) that had bounced around the zone off the crossbar.

In overtime, the Frostburg State attack dominated the Stevenson defense taking five shots but Mustang keeper Brittany Ross would keep the Bobcats at bay to hang on for the 1-1 tie. Ross ended the afternoon with six saves, while Bobcat keeper Stephanie Gwinn (Ijamsville, Md. / Urbana) recorded four saves.

Frostburg State is back on the field next Saturday, September 20 when it travels to Pitt-Bradford for a 1:00 pm AMCC matchup.
