FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Soccer Team secured its third consecutive shutout victory on Saturday evening, defeating Point Park 2-0 during Homecoming Weekend.
Â
The opening 10 minutes featured limited action, with the Bobcats holding a bit more possession but unable to create many shooting chances. On the 13-minute mark, FSU capitalized on their second corner, as junior Madison Hobson delivered a ball into the box that classmate Rayiah Davis headed into the back of the net to give Frostburg an early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, senior Madison Hinton fired a shot from a free kick, but the Pioneers wall blocked it.
Â
Just under 20 minutes into the match, PPU had their first real chances on attack with a corner kick that produced two scoring opportunities, with junior Ainsley Wilson clearing a shot off the line before senior goalkeeper Mia Graff dove to her left to save the follow-up effort and preserve the Bobcats' lead. Wilson then tested Point Park goalkeeper Nicole Kuchinski with a shot midway through the half, who made a fairly easy gather.
Â
The Pioneers kept searching for an equalizer, sending two more chances toward goal, one blocked before reaching Graff and the next producing a save. In the closing minutes of the half, Graff made another save to keep PPU scoreless before Hinton nearly doubled Frostburg's lead, striking the crossbar on a blast as the Bobcats carried their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Â
Point Park opened the second half looking for an early equalizer, sending one shot high over the bar and another straight at Graff within the first 10 minutes. The sides then went back-and-forth up and down the field, as Davis missed an effort just wide while PPU did the same. Off a Pioneer corner kick, juniors Cassidy Paige and Mollie Rebuck led a blistering counterattack from which the latter looked to beat Kuchinski on her left foot but put it just wide.
Â
Sophomore Abbey Robrecht then looked for a rebounded effort off a corner from outside the 18 but went high and wide. With just under 30 minutes to go, Graff kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard with another save, reacting quickly to tip Maria Gomez's shot onto the crossbar. Frostburg then ramped up their pressure in a chaotic frenzy, as Hobson had an effort from deep that hit off the top corner of the bar, with Hinton then hitting the rebound that Kuchinski got a fingertip to onto the bar, then in the following scramble, junior Ana Davis had a pass deflected right into the path of Rebuck for a finish in front of the net to extend FSU's lead to 2-0.
Â
With just under 15 minutes remaining, PPU again missed a shot wide, then junior Elena Fernandez drove down the pitch, showing off her footwork and working a corner kick before flicking a header toward goal that Kuchinski gathered. In the last ten minutes, Point Park had a free kick go high and wide of goal, then sent an easy roller right to Graff as the clock hit zero, giving Frostburg the 2-0 win and another shutout victory.Â
Â
The Pioneers had a 12-11 advantage in shots, with seven on goal to the Bobcats' five, as Graff earned her sixth clean sheet of the season.

With the win, FSU improves to 11-2-2 as PPU falls to 9-5-1. Frostburg is back at home on Wednesday, October 21 to face Wheeling at 7:30 PM. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
