WEXFORD, Pa. - The Frostburg State women's tennis team captured second place at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, this weekend.
Penn State Behrend took home the title with 26 points followed by Frostburg State (15) in second and Penn State Altoona in third (12). La Roche College finished fourth (6) and Pitt-Bradford was fifth (4).
Senior
Sarah Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and sophomore
Vicky Stafford (Lee, N.H./Oyster River) picked up the number one doubles championship title after defeating Penn State Behrend's Christy Calvert and Karen Hobaugh in the finals (8-4). In the second round, Eisel and Stafford won against La Roche's Carolyn Shields and Christina Shields to move on to the finals (8-4).
Juniors
Becky Cuddahee (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and
Monie Cuddahee (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) finished runner-up in the number two doubles finals. The duo fell in the finals to Arica Christman and Stephanie Cattron from PSB by a score of 8-5. Becky Cuddahee and Monie Cuddahee defeated Penn State Altoona's Lindsay Kromel and Ashley Bosco in the second round (8-3).
In the number three doubles competition, senior
Liz Coblentz (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) and junior
Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) fell in the finals to Penn State Behrend's Hillary Lasher and Allison Quigley (8-5). The duo defeated Michelle Harrison and Emily Knott from Penn State Altoona with a score of 8-3 in the second round to advance to the finals.
In the singles competiton, Shedd and Stafford both finished runner-up. Shedd was defeated in the finals in the number two singles match by Christy Calvert from PSB (4-6, 6-4, 6-1). Shedd won against Renee Total from Pitt-Bradford in the second round of the competition with score of 6-2, 6-2.
In the number three singles match, Stafford fell to Penn State Behrend's Stephanie Cattron in the finals (6-1, 6-3) after defeating Lindsay Kromel from Penn State Altoona in the second round (6-2, 6-0).
Eisel lost in the second round of the number one singles competition to Melissa Barba from PSB with scores of 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (6).
Freshman
Jannill Sites (Waynesboro, Pa./James Buchanan) was defeated by Penn State Altoona's Ashley Bosco in the second round of competition in the number four singles match (6-4, 6-3).
In the number five singles competition, Coblentz fell to Michelle Harrison from Penn State Atloona with scores of 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the second round.
Sophomore
Theresa Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) was defeated in the second round of the number six singles match by Penn State Altoona's Emily Knott (4-6, 6-2, 7-5).
Frostburg State finishes the season with an overall record of 8-8 and a conference record of 5-2.
