FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team secured their spot in the MEC Tournament with a 5-2 home victory over West Virginia State on Friday.

 FSU began the meet in strong fashion, as juniors Claudia Coombes and Ella Troxell took and easy 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, then seniors Alyssa Kush and Julia Ramos secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 to earn the meet point.

Troxell (6-2, 6-2) and Coombes (6-1, 6-0) each cruised to straight-set victories at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, while at the top spot, Ramos won a 7-6 battle in her first set before a more comfortable 6-1 score in set two. Junior Patricia Castejon took the final Bobcat victory on the day, winning a back-and-forth bout 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 3. Kush nearly completed a turnaround at No. 4, falling 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 in a third-set tiebreak.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 11-8 on the year, while WVSU drops to 6-8. FSU will have a quick turnaround, as they face West Chester on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m., where it will be Senior Day. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
