Field Hockey Wins in Double Overtime

FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) scored the game-winning goal 6:27 into double overtime to give Frostburg State a 2-1 victory over Juniata in women's field hockey, Wednesday.

The win is the third straight for Frostburg State (8-2) and eighth in its last nine games.

The Bobcats trailed in shots (8-5) heading into both overtimes but held all the momentum in the extra frames outshooting the Eagles 4-1.

Tapman capitalized on a soft cross in front of the goal from sophomore Breanne Russell (Clements, Md./Chopticon). Russell's pass beat an out-stretched Juniata (3-8) keeper and Tapman knocked home the ball for the FSU win.

Senior Michelle Frost (Jessup, Md./Hammond) put the hosts on the board 6:11 into the second half. She netted a rebound that came off a save from a Tapman shot.

The Eagles only goal came in the 64th minute as Kelly O'Shea deflected an Erin Smith shot off a penalty corner to knot the contest at 1-1.

FSU goalkeeper Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) made three saves in the win while JC netminder Abby Funk made three saves in the loss.

Frostburg State travels to Lynchburg on Saturday, October 4 for a 2:00 pm game.
